Rain, rain may go away -- then return

An umbrella provided a spectrum's worth of color as an unidentified woman pushed a double stroller down the sidewalk on the McGrath and O'Brien Highway in the rain on Thursday. The rain is expected to let up this afternoon, but it could return Saturday.
Southern New England has been drenched with one to two inches of rain Thursday and today, with higher amounts across Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts, said National Weather Service meteorologist Charlie Foley.
The rain should taper off by midafternoon, but it may come back tomorrow, he said. “There’s a system that’s kind of sitting offshore that may retrograde back. Right now, it appears the Cape Cod and the Islands would be most prone to rain.”
Even if it doesn’t rain tomorrow, it will still be cloudy in the metropolitan area, said Foley.
“The further west and northwest [you travel] the less of a chance you will see rain,” he said. “If you really want sunshine, go west of Worcester.”
The National Weather Service also issued a coastal flood advisory until noon, but no major flooding was reported, Foley said. A section of Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester was shut down briefly due to flooding, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation said.
