Scooter driver killed in Roxbury hit and run
Boston police are reviewing surveillance video footage and asking witnesses to come forward after a man riding a scooter was killed in a hit and run accident in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood late Sunday night.
The 24-year-old man was riding his scooter at about 11:43 p.m. on Tremont Street between Terrace Street and Columbus Avenue, when he was hit. A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, police said in a statement.
Spokesman Eddy Chrispin said the vehicle kept going after hitting the man, heading up Tremont Street toward Brigham Circle.
The man was rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified pending notification of his family.
Police said the vehicle involved may be a Hyundai Santa Fe, either metallic, charcoal gray, or silver, in color.
Police also said the vehicle likely sustained heavy front-end damage and they asked auto body shops to contact them if a customer seeks repairs for unexplained damage.
Police asked anyone with information on the case to contact them at 617-343-4470 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, to call the Crimestoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text "TIP" to CRIME (27463).
