It looks like the Boston area will ring in the New Year with unseasonably warm temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
Today's highs will be around 40 degrees. Temperatures are expected to climb to 48 Friday afternoon and temperatures for New Year's Eve celebrations on Friday night will drop to only about 40 in Boston, the Weather Service forecasted.
Temperatures will climb even higher on New Year's Day to 50 degrees. There is a chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday, said Weather Service meteorologist Kim Buttrick.
Sunday will be another warm day with highs in the mid- to upper 40s, she said.
Temperatures over the weekend will be about 10 degrees warmer than the normal high of 38 degrees for this time of year, said Buttrick.
“It’s going to be unseasonably warm over the weekend with a return to more typical temperatures next week,” she said.
