Boston raising hourly cost of metered parking by 25 cents
Boston officials announced today they are raising the cost of parking at meters by 25 cents an hour -- to $1.25 -- during the next month, as well as implementing the possibility of credit card payment and reloadable debit card payment systems.
The parking increase will mean that a quarter will get drivers 12 minutes at one of the city's more than 7,000 metered parking spaces, rather than the current 15 minutes.
The city will begin converting the meters this weekend, and expects to complete the changeover before the end of January.
Along with the price change, the city will be putting a credit card payment test system in place at 144 spots in the Financial District. Drivers currently can use credit cards for multi-space parking. The change, expected to come in February, would extend this to single-space meters.
