Maine teen dies on slope at Sugarloaf ski resort
A 16-year-old Carrabassett Valley Academy student and son of a Sugarloaf ski resort employee died after colliding with an object on a black diamond trail at the mountain in Maine Saturday afternoon, according to the resort's communications manager.
The skiing accident happened around noon on Hayburner, a black diamond trail at the resort, said Ethan Austin, the communications manager at Sugarloaf. The teen, whose name has not been released, was wearing a helmet, he said.
“The individual skied off the side of the trail and collided with an object. There is still a bit of uncertainty exactly what he collided with ... ,” Austin said.
Ski patrol responded to the incident, but was unable to revive the skier, Austin said. The Carrabassett Valley Police Department is investigating the incident.
