Police arrest Acton woman after standoff
Police say a woman who claimed to have a rifle and a bomb and barricaded herself in her Massachusetts home has been arrested.
State police say the woman was in a standoff with them for several hours this evening at her apartment in Acton, a town of about 20,000 residents northwest of Boston. They say they helped local police evacuate the woman's building and block off the area around it.
A negotiating team tried to persuade the woman to end the standoff, but she wouldn't comply.
State police eventually entered the apartment and took her into custody.
No injuries were reported.
The 59-year-old woman has been taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police say they recovered a pellet rifle at the scene. They say appropriate criminal charges will be filed.
