Man faces arraignment on charges of kidnapping disabled woman
A 39-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped a disabled woman last month is slated to be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court on a variety of charges after being captured Tuesday night at the end of a high-speed car chase on Cape Cod, police said.
Barnstable police said they began chasing Phillip Depasquale, who has no permanent address, after witnessing him break into a car parked behind Pizzeria Uno in the town's Hyannis area at about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday.
Depasquale allegedly began driving the stolen vehicle, refusing to stop and ramming into a police cruiser. The chase ended when Depasquale crashed into a tree in Sandwich.
After the crash, Barnstable police and State Police arrested and transported him to the Barnstable police station.
Before the chase, there had already been warrants issued for Depasquale’s arrest on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery on a handicapped person, larceny of a motor vehicle and three counts of credit card fraud.
In the aftermath of the chase, he is facing charges that include breaking into a motor vehicle, larceny over $250, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, operating with a revoked license, operating to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and possession of burglary tools.
Depasquale, who is facing a total of 17 charges, allegedly kidnapped a disabled Hopkinton woman from her home on Jan. 26. He forced her to take money out of her ATM and tied her up in an abandoned recreational vehicle in Oxford, where he left her overnight during a stnowstorm.
