Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis said extra officers were stationed this afternoon at major thoroughfares to avoid the logjams that delayed this morning's commute.
“There are traffic officers posted all over the city to try to stop cars from the blocking of the box,” Davis said.
Traffic snarled this morning after signals in the Roslindale and Jamaica Plan ceased functioning, apparently due to problems with malfunctioning equipment in manholes in the neighborhoods.
The signals were restarted and returned to normal operation, the Menino administration said around 10:15 a.m. today.
