Public's help sought in finding prison escapee
State Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man who escaped from a minimum security prison in Shirley on Monday.
Tamik Kirkland, 24, has a last known address of 17 Ringgold St. in Springfield and still has ties to the area, State Police said in a statement. Kirkland, who arrived at the state prison in November 2009 following a conviction for weapons offenses, is affiliated with a Springfield gang and may have access to weapons, according to State Police.
He is described as a black male, 5-feet-10 and weighing 172 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He also has a scroll design tattoo on the inside of his right forearm, State Police said.
Anyone with information on Kirkland's whereabouts is urged to call State Police at 508-820-2121 or Springfield police at 413-787-6300.
The Globe reported on Tuesday that Kirkland, also known as "Matik," identified himself on a website as a member of the Springfield-based rap group, The Mafioso Mobsters, and as the founder of Ahnesty Records, a recording label.
