Jury selection completed in DiMasi corruption trial
Jury selection has been completed in the federal corruption trial of former House speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi.
Eight men and eight women have been selected for the trial, which is expected to begin this week in US District Court in Boston.
The jurors for the high-profile trial were selected from a pool of 250 people.
Twelve people will ultimately deliberate on the case; four alternates were also selected.
Wolf, saying he wants to settle last-minute legal issues and rules of law, indicated on Monday that opening statements in the case could occur as soon as Thursday.
Prosecutors allege that DiMasi and his associates concocted an elaborate scheme to steer two state contracts to a software firm in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars of secret payments. For a list of the key players in the case, click here.
