NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A tenant says he discovered a suit in the basement of his apartment building in Connecticut that he believes belonged to the late actor Paul Newman.

Peter Gamlen, a 23-year-old British illustrator, said he found the suit among clothes stuffed in a trash bag. He says he found a photo of Newman in the pocket of a sports jacket and the tailor’s tag on another suit listed the client as Newman.

Gamlen, who works in a clothing store, says the suit was by the tailor Henry Stewart whose clients included Newman.

The owner of the building in New Haven says she has no idea how Newman’s clothes could wind up in the basement.

Newman, who died in 2008, lived in Westport about 30 miles from New Haven.end of story marker
