GROTON, Conn. (AP) — A U.S. Navy attack submarine is returning to Connecticut after a six-month deployment that included port visits in Norway, Scotland, Portugal and England.

The USS Hartford is due back at Naval Submarine Base New London on Saturday.

The Los Angeles-class submarine left its homeport on May 15 and traveled more than 28,000 nautical miles. The Navy says it was supporting ‘‘national security interests and maritime security operations.’’

The Hartford was commissioned in 1994. It is the second Navy vessel to be named in honor of Connecticut’s capital city.end of story marker
