HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say about $60 million has been collected this year in criminal penalties, civil fines and assets forfeited.
U.S. Attorney David Fein has announced the collection of $9.5 million in criminal cases, $42.2 million in civil actions and more than $8.3 million from criminal and civil asset forfeitures.
The largest civil recovery was more than $24 million in a settlement of four whistleblower lawsuits alleging various False Claims Act violations by Florida-based WellCare Health Plans Inc.
WellCare is a provider of managed health care services for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
The office also collected more than $18 million in civil and criminal payments from Connecticut-based defense contractor United Technologies Corp. and its Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. and Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. subsidiaries in a settlement over accusations of illegal exports to China.
