AVON, Conn. (AP) — A 54-year-old Avon man is held on $250,000 bail after a nearly 13-hour standoff with police.
Avon police said Monday that Brian Benjamin was booked on charges including assault, making a threat and interfering with an officer after being treated at a hospital for what police said were ‘‘superficial’’ injuries sustained during his arrest. He was taken into custody at about 3 a.m. He is to appear Wednesday in Hartford Superior Court.
Police said the incident began after a dispute between Benjamin and a roommate Sunday afternoon. The woman left the house and Benjamin barricaded himself inside. Police said he was armed, and threatened violence against police officers and himself. Neighbors were evacuated as a precaution while police negotiated with him.
It’s not immediately known who is representing him.
