FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Police have identified a Fairfield man who fatally shot himself after a more than three-hour standoff.

The News Times reports (http://bit.ly/XUZD5c ) that Douglas Garni barricaded himself in a condominium on Saturday night after police said he threatened his girlfriend.

She took refuge at a nearby condo and called police. She told officials that the 40-year-old Garni had several firearms registered in his name and that he kept at the condo.

Police say the couple had no previous history of domestic violence.

Fairfield and Bridgeport police dispatched emergency services units and police negotiators from Fairfield and Norwalk also were sent to try to contact Garni.
