Survey shows gas prices at record high

HARTFORD, Conn. --Gasoline prices in Connecticut hit a record high Tuesday, according to the AAA.

A report released Tuesday by AAA found that the average price per gallon in Connecticut for regular gasoline was $3.19, an increase of a nickel over last month's average of $3.14 per gallon.

The previous record of $3.18 a gallon had been set last fall at the height of hurricane season.

One year ago Connecticut motorists were paying an average price of $2.40.

The national average reported Tuesday was $2.97 per gallon, an increase from June's average of $2.90. A year ago, the AAA survey said, the national average was $2.29 per gallon.

The automobile association surveys about 1,000 self-service stations in Connecticut and more than 60,000 across the country daily to determine average price.
