HARTFORD, Conn.—Gov. M. Jodi Rell has named a new commissioner to oversee the department that handles purchasing and personnel issues for the state.

Brenda Sisco of Ellington has been tapped to head the Department of Administrative Services when Anne Gnazzo retires Jan. 31.

Sisco has been the deputy commissioner since June 2006. She was previously director of the Gov.'s Office of Legislative Affairs.

The new deputy commissioner will be Martin W. Anderson of Durham, who has held various positions during 19 years with the department.

The department has a $22 million budget and 300 employees. It runs the selection process for state jobs, recovers money owed to the state, manages the state worker's compensation portfolio and operates the state's vehicle fleet.

The appointment still needs House and Senate approval.
