NEW HAVEN, Conn.—New Haven police say a man being held for a Stafford bank robbery has been linked by DNA to a January homicide.

A judge has signed a murder warrant for 32-year-old Antwan Byrd of Hartford in connection with the Jan. 17 killing of 31-year-old Lavias Phillips.

Byrd has been in custody since Jan. 23, six days after Phillips was shot to death in New Haven.

Police say Byrd and a second man held up a Workers' Federal Credit Union in Stafford the day he was arrested.

After Byrd's arrest, police got a DNA sample to test against evidence collected at the murder scene.

Byrd's bail has been set at an additional $1 million.
