NEW LONDON, Conn.—Court documents show that an elderly Groton man who had been stabbed had been dead five days before his alleged killer was nabbed in the victim's car.

Sean B. Dowden attracted a patrolman's attention while driving a white Cadillac that belonged to the victim.

The 20-year-old Dowden of Groton is accused of breaking into Charles Lovendosky's house on Gold Star Highway on April 9.

Police say when Lovendosky refused Dowden's demands for money, Dowden told them he struck the 94-year-old man in the face with a handgun and stabbed him with a scalpel and kitchen knife.

Dowden is charged with 13 crimes, including felony murder, murder and home invasion, and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
