Suspect in Stamford dragging death testifies at trial

STAMFORD, Conn.—A Stamford man charged with dragging a man to death with his car in 2006 has testified at his trial that he tried to shake the victim off his car by braking, then speeding up.

The state rested its case against 23-year-old Gilbert Nazarian on Tuesday in Stamford Superior Court.

Michael Castillo, the father of a toddler, died of head injuries when he fell off Nazarian's car after hanging from the driver's side window while the car traveled nearly 1,000 feet.

The death occurred after a dispute that began outside a bar in Port Chester, N.Y. spilled over onto city streets in Stamford on Aug. 21, 2006.

Five people, including Nazarian, were arrested on several different charges.
