HARTFORD, Conn.—A former Miss Connecticut is considering a run for the House of Representatives seat being vacated by House Speaker James Amann.

Heidi Voight, 25, tells the New Haven Register that a Democratic Town Committee member recently contacted her and asked if she'd be interested in seeking the party's nomination. The nominating convention for the 118th District seat will be held on May 27.

Several other people are also interested in the nomination.

Voight, named Miss Connecticut in 2006, pushed for legislation at the state Capitol that addressed victims of sexual and domestic violence, including a bill that required all Connecticut hospitals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims.

Amann, who is not seeking re-election to the House, is considering a run for governor in 2010.
