Stamford man convicted of charges in dragging death
STAMFORD, Conn.—A Stamford jury has convicted a 23-year-old man on charges stemming from the death of another man who was dragged to death.
After two days of deliberations, the jury Wednesday convicted Gilbert Nazarian of evading responsibility, negligent homicide and giving a false statement.
While he was acquitted of manslaughter charges, prosecutors say he could still face more than 11 years in prison.
Michael Castillo died of head injuries when he fell off Nazarian's car after hanging from the driver's side window while the car traveled nearly 1,000 feet.
The death occurred after a dispute that began outside a bar in Port Chester, N.Y., spilled over onto city streets in Stamford on Aug. 21, 2006.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
