HEBRON, Conn.—State police say an 80-year-old Hebron woman has died two weeks after her husband allegedly beat her with a hammer.

Troopers say Francoise Genesse died late Wednesday at Hartford Hospital. The chief medical examiner's office has ruled her death a homicide.

Her husband, 85-year-old Clermont Genesse, is being held on $1 million bond, charged with attempted murder and assault. Prosecutors may upgrade the charges to include murder when he returns to Rockville Superior Court on May 14.

State police say the April 25 attack came only hours after the couple had signed documents to move into a home for the elderly. They say Clermont Genesse was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and had planned to kill his wife and himself.
