WASHINGTON—President Bush has signed into law a bill providing federal protections for Connecticut's Eightmile River.
Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., and Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., spearheaded the effort to provide environmental and other protections for the river and its watershed. It was the first bill that the freshman Courtney introduced in the House.
The lawmakers said Thursday they hoped that the Eightmile Wild and Scenic River bill will help preserve the river's natural beauty for generations to come. The watershed extends into Salem, East Haddam and Lyme.
