Donations, government erasing Dodd campaign debt
HARTFORD, Conn.—Although the presidential campaign of Sen. Christopher Dodd has been over since January and is $400,000 in the hole, the debt is being erased by private donations and public money.
The Democratic senator abandoned his campaign in January after a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses. Since he withdrew, supporters have continued to send in cash totaling well over $383,000.
Dodd's presidential campaign still owes $395,793, however the Federal Election Commission says it will be making a matching-funds payment of more than $514,000 to the Dodd for President campaign.
