NEW HAVEN, Conn.—New Haven police say the man whose body was found in a home on Poplar Street last week has been identified as a University of Connecticut student.

Twenty-one-year-old Vladimir Voinov was found shot to death last Thursday in an apartment in the Fair Haven section of the city. Relatives of the man who lives in the apartment said at the time the victim was a stranger.

Voinov was preparing to enter his senior year at UConn and had graduated from New Haven High School in the Community.

Police have not disclosed a motive in the killing. Investigators believe he went to Poplar Street on his own. His car was found parked on Mechanic Street, about six blocks away.
