Wallingford sword attack suspect pleads not guilty

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --A Southington teenager says he's not guilty of charges stemming from a sword attack on a Wallingford man who later died.

Seventeen-year-old Christopher Sunbury pleaded not guilty in New Haven Superior Court this week to assault, breach of peace, carrying a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment.

Twenty-year-old Shane Smith died earlier this month, a day after he was hospitalized for treatment of injuries from a fight involving a Samurai-style sword.

Police say the confrontation between Sunbury and Smith came during what was the third in a series of fights by several young people near Sheehan High School.

An autopsy by the chief medical examiners office is inconclusive and results of a toxicology report are not yet available.
