HAMDEN, Conn.—Hamden police say a baby who was found unresponsive on a couch is clinging to life at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Emergency personnel went to a home on Arch Street Thursday on a call for medical assistance.

Police say the 7-week-old girl was worked on and taken to Yale-New Haven and is in the pediatric intensive care unit.

The state Department of Children and Families has been contacted.

A preliminary investigation shows the baby was lying on a couch with a man believed to be her father. When the father woke up, he found the baby was not breathing.

Police say at this point they don't know what happened.
