NEW HAVEN, Conn.—New Haven fire officials say nearly 300 people had to be evacuated from the Omni Hotel early Friday because of a restaurant fire.

The fire was reported about 2 a.m. in the kitchen of a restaurant on the 19th floor of the hotel, located on Temple Street.

The fire, reported in the ceiling of the kitchen, set off loud alarms and an estimated 289 guests in the hotel were evacuated for about two hours. They were allowed back in their rooms about 4 a.m.

The blaze was put out and fire officials say two firefighters have been treated for minor injuries.
