A young man was shot and killed inside a building on Harvard Street in Mattapan on Friday afternoon, police said. Boston police found the victim, a man in his early to mid-20s who has not been identified, shortly after 3:30. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Trial to continue in 1994 fatal shooting
A man accused in a 15-year-old Lowell slaying is to testify against the alleged gunman. Shawn Lessieur is standing trial this week in Lowell Superior Court in the 1994 shooting of 21-year-old Mark Jones. Lessieur has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. He was brought back to Massachusetts last year from California, where he was serving time on federal drug charges. Prosecutors say Lessieur shot Lowell resident Jones because he thought Jones was planning to steal drugs from him. A second suspect, 33-year-old Nolyn Surprenant of Methuen, is testifying against Lessieur in exchange for a reduced sentence. Shooting victim found in vehicle dies
Police are investigating the shooting death of a man found in the driver’s seat of a Lexus. Police found Carmelo Adorno Jr., 24, of Springfield early Saturday with gunshot wounds to his head and lower back. He died from his injuries that day. Police said yesterday they have determined that the killing was drug-related. Adorno has been arraigned at least 10 times in Hampden County over the past six years, mostly in cases involving drug-related crimes, police said. (AP)NEW HAVEN
Suspect in Yale slaying due back in court
A former Yale University lab technician accused of strangling a graduate student and stuffing her body behind a laboratory wall is due back in court for a probable cause hearing. Raymond Clark III, 24, is to return to New Haven Superior Court tomorrow for a hearing in which both sides will have the right to introduce evidence and call witnesses. Defendants accused of murder have the right to the hearing within 60 days of arrest to decide whether the case will go forward. Clark is accused of strangling 24-year-old Annie Le. Clark’s lawyer, Joseph Lopez, has said his client will plead not guilty. A judge will also consider whether to extend an order sealing the arrest affidavit. (AP) PROVIDENCE
Construction plans at Brown advance
Brown University officials have approved design plans for the school’s new medical education building. The Corporation Committee on Facilities and Design approved the schematics for the 135,000-square-foot Warren Alpert Medical School on Saturday. School officials hope to begin the $45 million renovation of a building in the spring. When complete, the facility will feature lecture halls, an anatomy lab, and seminar rooms.
