HARTFORD, Conn.—A Connecticut man who stabbed his live-in girlfriend to death with a fork and knife has been sent to prison for 45 years.

Fifty-six-year-old Willie James Coleman of Hartford was sentenced Thursday, after having been convicted by a jury of murder in the killing of 44-year-old Twonna White in July 2008.

Prosecutors say Coleman stabbed White in the back and head with the fork, then plunged the knife through her heart. His lawyer says he was enraged that White was taunting him about having been with other men in his apartment.

Coleman was also convicted of manslaughter in 1993 in the shooting death of a friend he accused of seeing his girlfriend. He was sentenced to only two years probation, because witnesses at his trial gave different accounts of the shooting.
