SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The trial of a former Massachusetts police chief and three other defendants charged in connection with the death of an 8-year-old boy at a gun show last year has been postponed.

Edward Fleury, who resigned as Pelham's chief in March, is charged with manslaughter and furnishing a machine gun to a minor in connection with the death of Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEEL') of Ashford, Conn.

Bizilj lost control of an Uzi submachine gun and shot himself in the head at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in October 2008. Fleury promoted the event.

The trial of Fleury, the club, Carl Guiffre, of Hartford, Conn., and Domenico Spano, of New Milford, Conn., was scheduled to start Dec. 8 in Hampden Superior Court.

But lawyers on Thursday agreed to set a new trial date.
