EAST HARTFORD, Conn.—East Hartford authorities say they probably won't continue a search for a man who went missing after a minivan sank in the Connecticut River.

Assistant Fire Chief William Perez said Monday that if the man didn't make it out of the water, the operation is a recovery instead of a rescue at this point.

Police were called to a boat launch at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday and found the minivan nearly 150 feet down the river from the ramp. Dive teams searched all day for the man, but without success.

Authorities have not released his name. They say he's in his 50s, and the van's owner is listed as living in Berlin.

Police say it appears two other people were also in the van at the time. Officers say one of them gave conflicting reports about what happened.
