HARTFORD, Conn.—Governor M. Jodi Rell says a relief effort she launched with the Connecticut Association of Schools for the children of earthquake-ravaged Haiti has raised $36,281.

Rell and CAS began the fundraising appeal shortly after the Jan. 12 earthquake that struck about 15 miles west of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

Rell complimented Connecticut schoolchildren, parents, teachers and staff for raising the money.

Rell says donations are still being accepted at local Bank of America branches.

The governor's office and the schools association will determine where the funds should be directed after reviewing international relief efforts for Haiti's children.
