SHARON, Conn.—Police say a New York woman is charged with helping steal religious statues and other valuables worth nearly $18,000 from a Connecticut songwriter's mansion.
Twenty-seven-year-old Erica Proper of Amenia, N.Y., was arraigned Tuesday in Bantam Superior Court on a charge of conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny.
Police say Proper helped another person pawn stolen lawn statues, copper gutters and other items from songwriter Paul Leka's Sharon estate. Police say they have a warrant to arrest the other person, who worked for Leka.
Leka is credited with several songs, including co-writing and producing the 1960s pop hit, "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye."
Court records do not list an attorney for Proper and she could not immediately be reached Wednesday.![]()
