Their grandmother said that two New Haven students and other boys were forced to lift weights as discipline at their schools and that her family has been contacted by child-welfare investigators. A city school official would not confirm specifics of the allegations, but said two teachers have been placed on administrative leave during an investigation. Michelle Gary told the New Haven Register that her 6-year-old and 8-year-old grandsons and others in their Clinton Avenue School class were required to lie on their backs and hold up heavy weights as punishment for misbehaving.
