State crime lab now lacks accreditation

The accreditation of the state’s forensic laboratory has expired. The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors declined to extend the accreditation, and the US Department of Justice recently raised questions about supervision, reporting of case results, evidence control, data security, quality assurance and validation techniques for DNA test results. The accreditation expired Wednesday. Governor Dannel Malloy’s undersecretary for criminal justice planning says a re-inspection is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 12. (AP)
