HARTFORD
Governor Dannel P. Malloy said he is moving ahead with plans to begin laying off 56 Connecticut state troopers. Malloy said yesterday that the layoffs will proceed, but on a staggered basis. He said a “substantial number’’ will lose their jobs today. Malloy said he did not want to proceed with the layoffs but had no choice after the unionized troopers voted down the wage-freeze portion of the labor savings and concessions agreement. He said he hopes the laid-off troopers will be rehired as veteran officers retire. (AP)![]()
