MANCHESTER, Conn.—A man accused of tying up a Glastonbury woman and her son in their home and later forcing her to withdraw $20,000 from a bank will be making his first court appearance in the case.

Thirty-seven-year-old Cong Tan Doan of East Hartford is charged with home invasion, kidnapping, strangulation and other crimes.

He's being held on $1 million bail and is to be arraigned Monday at Manchester Superior Court.

Police say Doan got into the woman's home last Thursday by saying that his vehicle broke down and his cell phone battery was dead. Authorities say he previously had done home contracting work for her.

Police also say Doan choked the woman, but neither she nor her son was seriously injured.

It was not immediately known whether Doan has a lawyer.
