NEW BRITAIN, Conn.—The federal transit administrator is expected to officially commit $275 million in federal funding for the proposed busway from New Britain to Hartford.
Peter M. Rogoff will join Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and other officials for the announcement on the federal government's decision at Central Connecticut State University on Monday.
The project has been in the works for 13 years.
Ultimately, the 9.4-mile-long busway, which is essentially a highway for just buses, is expected to cost the federal and state governments $567 million. The state Department of Transportation has projected that 16,000 riders a day will travel along the busway, which is supposed to help alleviate traffic along I-91 and I-84.
It's expected to open in early 2015.
