NEW HAVEN, Conn.—A Yale women's hockey player who died last spring is being honored in a fund-raiser to highlight the need for bone marrow and umbilical cord blood donations.

Mandi Schwartz was 23 when she died in April after battling leukemia for 27 months.

Yale's women's hockey team is dedicating its Dec. 2 game against Princeton to Schwartz, and raising money through donations and pledges to support a foundation launched in her name.

The goal is to pack Yale' Ingalls Rink with fans wearing white in what they're calling a "White Out for Mandi." People have pledged donations based on the attendance at the rink, where capacity is 3,500 people.

Princeton is also contributing to fundraising efforts for the "White Out," and the goal is to raise $25,000.
