Burger sales to boost Conn. college's endowment
EAST HARTFORD, Conn.—A small Connecticut college hopes an unusual fund-raiser will spark donors' appetite to boost its endowment for scholarships and other programs.
Goodwin College in East Hartford will receive a portion of all sales of the new "Big Mark Schein-burger." It's being introduced Monday at Augie & Ray's Restaurant, not far from Goodwin's campus.
Restaurant owner Ernie Hutt says they wanted to recognize Goodwin and its president, Mark Scheinberg, for their contributions to East Hartford.
Scheinberg says being honored by the popular local eatery is one of the greatest recognitions he could imagine.
"Big Mark Schein-burger" is a 5 oz. patty topped with cheese, fried onion rings, bacon and a choice of horseradish or barbecue sauce. Hutt says it'll be under $5, and will become a permanent fixture on the menu.
