BRIDGEPORT, Conn.—Bridgeport police say a city man has been arrested after allegedly driving over a fire hose as crews fought a fire, then backing up and flattening it again.

Police say the fire in a trash container was minor, but that the weight of 21-year-old Samuel Gonzalez's vehicle on the hose could have caused its metal couplings to blow off at high pressure and strike firefighters.

The Connecticut Post reports ( http://bit.ly/uQTqPh) Gonzalez was arrested Saturday after allegedly ignoring firefighters' orders to steer clear. Police say he stopped only when a fire captain reached through his open window to yank the keys from the ignition.

Police say Gonzalez was charged with interfering with a firefighter and several motor vehicle violations, and was released after posting $4,000 bond. Police were unsure if he had an attorney.
