Large sinkhole closes road in Farmington, Conn.
FARMINGTON, Conn.—A large sinkhole has closed Route 4 in Farmington between South Road and Interstate 84.
The sinkhole, measuring 8 feet deep and 35 feet across, was reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the hole was created when maintenance work was being done on a sewer line that had collapsed.
Russ Arnold, who works for Farmington's Department of Public Works, says they hope to have the road open by midmorning Wednesday or "around noon time, at the latest."
WFSB-TV reports ( http://bit.ly/uhdKMP) that utility crews from the Regional Water Authority, the state Department of Transportation, and the town of Farmington responded to the sinkhole.
