HAMDEN, Conn.—Two women in Hamden were arrested after police found more than 700 marijuana plants worth half a million dollars in two separate homes.

Police say they discovered the drugs when they went to investigate a complaint from the United Illuminating Co. that electricity was being stolen at one of the addresses.

Police Chief Thomas J. Wydra said that an investigation determined a "massive" marijuana production and distribution enterprise was being run out of the houses.

Fifity-one-year-old Ileana Rivera and 31-year-old Meelee Rivera were arraigned Monday on charges including operating a drug factory. The New Haven Register reports that bail was set at $200,000 for Ileana Rivera and $35,000 for Meelee Rivera.
