SIMSBURY, Conn.—An experimental aircraft has crash-landed at a Connecticut landfill. The pilot is OK.

Police say the pilot was flying a gyroplane, which usually looks like a small and rudimentary one-seat helicopter. They say he was approaching a flying club's airport next to the landfill in Simsbury on Monday afternoon but touched down on the landfill's property.

The aircraft tipped over, and its propeller hit the ground. The aircraft was damaged.

Police say the pilot is a 60-year-old Granby resident who was near the aircraft when they arrived.

The cause of the crash landing hasn't been released. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified. An investigator has been assigned.
