WATERBURY, Conn.—A former Naugatuck man has been charged with larceny in connection with the theft of a sport utility vehicle and ramming it into a gasoline tanker truck in Southington, causing a fire that forced officials to shut area roads for hours.

The Republican American reports ( http://bit.ly/usQOVA) that Bryan Miele (MEEL'-ee) was arraigned Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court on numerous charges. He is being held on $150,000 bond.

It's not known if he is represented by a lawyer.

Southington fire officials evacuated a section of town and shut businesses Tuesday after police say the 43-year-old Miele crashed an SUV that had been reported stolen from Woodbury.

Police say Miele was pepper sprayed during the arrest.

The case was continued until Jan. 23.
