MANSFIELD, Conn.—Connecticut state police say a small plane has crashed into the Willimantic Reservoir shortly after taking off from a nearby airport, leaving the pilot shaken.

The pilot was the only person onboard when the plane crashed Sunday afternoon shortly after leaving Windham Airport.

State police say the pilot suffered no injuries. The aircraft has been recovered.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration were expected at the site Sunday.

Police did not immediately identify the make of aircraft involved in the crash or its owner.

There was no immediate word on what might have caused the incident.
