CHAPLIN, Conn.—State police say a 42-year-old Willimantic man was the person found stabbed to death outside a Chaplin home earlier this week.

Troopers have identified the man as Michael Mitchel, who was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a driveway off Mountain Laurel Lane while police investigated the stabbing of a woman at a nearby house. Mitchel's death was ruled a homicide.

No arrests have been made in either incident, and it's not clear if they're related. State police are investigating.

The injured woman hasn't been identified. Troopers say she's in serious condition at Hartford Hospital.

Residents say Wednesday's violence reminded them of the 1998 stabbing death of Heather Messenger at her Chaplin home. Her husband, David Messenger, was acquitted by reason of insanity and is confined to a state psychiatric hospital.
