HARTFORD, Conn.—Connecticut lawmakers are honoring veterans who served during the Vietnam War as part of an annual tribute.

Friday marks the third Annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. The ceremony, to be held at the Legislative Office Building, will feature a presentation of colors, singing of the national anthem and remarks from state and federal officials, including Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

Elliott Storm, a Vietnam combat veteran and author, will be the keynote speaker.

The General Assembly passed legislation in 2010 creating the annual event. During the debate, lawmakers spoke of veterans being shunned after returning home from Vietnam decades ago.

The war ended in 1975 but proponents said the recognition is still important to those who served in Vietnam.
